ukngroup and Sun Microsystems

February 05, 2008

Thin-Client computing was high on the agenda at this year's Butler Group Desktop Strategy Briefing with ukngroup presenting their "utility style" desktop solution alongside technology partner Sun Microsystems.

Delegates listened to John Gray of the RPA, dicussing the success of the UTC roll out under his guidance and the implementation of a seven-year managed service for the provision and support of a fully warrantied desktop infrastructure..

With over 70% of salaries now spent on so-called ‘information work’, the need to access corporate information management systems and enterprise applications from any location, at any time, is stretching the capabilities of the traditional desktop PC computing model. The ukngroup approach is showing organisations how to lower their IT expenditure and reduce the TCO for desktop computing by up to 50%.

From the subjects discussed it was felt that organisations could reduce their IT spend significantly by modifying corporate desktop strategies to accommodate new technologies such as desktop and application virtualisation. Moreover, by replacing traditional PCs with alternative device types, the IT department could reduce calls to the Help Desk, improve business continuity, and address compliance issues without alienating the workforce.
