Three councils in South Worcestershire award combined contract for provision of Sun Microsystems Virtualisation Clients and related infrastructure to UKN Group
September 23, 2009
UKN successfully bid in a competitive tender to supply a consortium of three local councils headed up by Malvern Hills District Council as part of an innovative project to improve and simplify their existing Information Systems. The contract is the first stage in a deployment of Sun Ray Ultra Thin Virtualisation Clients for around 250 users across South Worcestershire being carried out as part of a cost saving desktop refresh.
Malvern Hills District Council, Wychavon District Council and Worcester City Council have adopted a new approach, designed to improve inter-departmental systems integration and encourage the use of more shared services.
The stateless Sun Ray clients are a sensible and highly cost effective addition for any public sector organisation looking at ways to improve hot-desk mobility and increase security in accordance with Government Connect guidelines.
The choice to adopt Sun Ray by the three councils has been geared towards solving a number of infrastructure challenges such as addressing complexities associated with maintaining traditional desktop PC builds and providing a robust, scalable platform to deliver secure and comprehensive remote working capability.
The adoption of the Sun technology, provided by UKN Group, sets the scene for short term improvements for users and a long term drive towards a more ubiquitous, virtual desktop environment .
UKN Group is Sun Microsystem's leading enterprise intergrator for Sun Ray solutions, responsible for a wide range of deployments across private and public sector organisations. The company's approach to VDi, application delivery and remote accessibility is considered second to none in the market place.
