As North London Specialist School, Bishop Douglass opens its doors for the start of a new school year, pupils are finding they have access to more desktop computers than ever before thanks to Sun Ray Ultra Thin Clients.

With a student population of over 850, the school has been effectively utilising a mix of UTC and desktop PCs to improve ICT facilities and enable better use of technology in the classroom. Over the summer break three new classrooms have been provisioned with a full complement of Sun Ray UTC terminals for pupils.
Located in East Finchley (Harrow), this Specialist Science College serves a Catholic community and strives to provide a thorough, student-centred education in its well established facilities. The school is attended by children from a diverse range of backgrounds and has been recognised for helping those from some of inner-London's more deprived social groups to find a better standard of education than would have been available to them locally.
In February 2007, Bishop Douglass began to explore various technologies to improve their ICT provision in ways that would help tackle the issue of damage to equipment and improve the how ICT was used to complement teaching. Following the purchase of 180 UTC units and the necessary server infrastructure, the school has moved quickly to expand and capitalise on its initial investment.
The low overall cost of the UTC technology and its small footprint on desks, means that even more 30-pupil classrooms can be installed with a comprehensive IT solution that is centrally managed and is expected to last for over 7 years.
Bishop Douglass are now looking at other ways to further increase the learning opportunities that this technology provides, such as Secure Global Desktop for remote access and MS Softgrid to streamline application deployment. UKN Group are at the forefront of this innovative, simple, yet effective technology.
