Presentation Virtualisation
Presentation virtualisation makes it possible to run an application in one location, such as from a central server, but have it controlled from another, for instance a remote desktop pc or thin-client. It creates virtual sessions, in which the application being run, presents its interface remotely and gives the same user experience that would be expected had the application been accessed locally.
Each session might run only a single application, or it might present its user with a complete desktop offering multiple applications. In either case, several virtual sessions can use the same installed copy of an application.
Microsoft’s presentation virtualisation technology is Windows Terminal Services. First released for Windows NT 4, it’s now a standard part of Windows Server 2003 and 2008. Terminal Services lets an ordinary Windows desktop or compatible application run on a shared server machine yet present its user interface on a remote system, using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
This is an essential technology for the use of thin-client devices and ukngroup have extensive experience of helping businesses make the most of Windows Terminal Services and related technologies such as Citrix. It is an extremely versatile and scalable solution which can be used to address a wide number of business issues, including desktop deployment and remote connectivity.
