Five arrested for hacking into ATMs and stealing $3.2 million

Five members of an international cybercriminal group that specialised in hacking into ATMs were arrested in Taiwan, Romania and Belarus.

Unusually, rather than attacking the ATMs direct the gang used spear-phishing to target bank employees and penetrate the banks' internal networks to hack into the ATM network segment from the inside. The losses to banks caused by the five arrested suspects are estimated at around $3.2 million.
