At the end of a recent report on Making Tax Digital, the Treasury Committee said businesses were right to be concerned about cyber security when records are stored in the cloud as this means large amounts of data (including personal data) will be sent by the software to HMRC on a more regular basis.
The report concluded that HMRC will need to provide adequate assurances about the security of customers’ data, especially if it is to be stored outside the UK in the cloud.
Alongside cyber security, there are concerns about more general tech issues such as the need for data to be adequately and regularly backed up.
