The Mimecast Email Security Risk Assessment (ESRA) of 26 million emails, measuring the effectiveness of email security systems, has shown that millions of attacks are costing businesses time and money to clean up.
The research uncovered almost 3.5 million pieces of spam, almost 7,000 dangerous file types, and 1,697 impersonation attacks. Any organisation which hasn’t reviewed its approach to email security for 18 months is almost certainly vulnerable.45% per cent of respondents reported an increase in malicious macros within attachments, 64% think they will suffer a negative business impact from cybercriminals this year, and 56% believe malicious emails or URLs will form the likely attack.
