By The News Desk|6 December 2016

Following an international investigation, arrest warrants have been issued against 16 cyber criminals from 10 countries, and the biggest part of the notorious Avalanche botnet, responsible for a tranche of banking and computer viruses, switched off.

Europol reported the arrest of several Avalanche botnet operators, about 800,000 web domains shut down and 39 servers confiscated.

The four-year cross-border investigation involved Europol, the FBI and many other security authorities from 39 countries. The perpetrators were stealing money from bank accounts using sophisticated malware, with as many as two-thirds of all phishing attacks caused by this gang in 2010.
