New twist on an old banking hack

Operation Elemental, an old banking scam, has been given a new twist that allows hackers to lock and reset phone passwords, and to generate fake tokens to trick victims into setting up what they believe to be a secure connection with their bank.

Responding to texts from the command centre, the malware cleans out the victim's bank account instantly. Advice given on how to avoid this virus, which affects both mobile devices and PCs,  includes avoiding downloading apps from unknown sources, and installing the latest antivirus software and malware protection that can verify users regardless of the device.
